Renee Montgomery

Renee Montgomery became the first former WNBA player to hold both a team partner stake and an executive role in 2021 as part of the three-member ownership group with Larry Gottesdiener and Suzanne Abair. She brings a vocal leadership and athlete’s perspective to the front office as a former team captain.

The West Virginia native was drafted fourth overall in the 2009 WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx. During her professional career, she captured WNBA Championships with the Lynx in 2015 and 2017. Montgomery was named an WNBA All-Star in 2011 and Sixth Woman of the Year in 2012. She finished her 11-year professional career with the Dream after sitting out the 2020 season to focus on social reform and justice.

Montgomery launched the Renee Montgomery Foundation in 2019 to promote equality in women’s sports and advocates for social justice, addressing the importance of positivity, education and technology in early youth development.

In 2021, she became the first female team owner in the Fan Controlled Football League. Additionally, she hosts the sports, business and entertainment podcast “Montgomery and Co.”

Montgomery graduated from the University of Connecticut with a bachelor’s degree in communications and media studies after helping lead the Huskies to the 2009 NCAA National Championship. During her college career, Montgomery was a two-time All-American, and the 2009 championship was one of nine undefeated seasons in NCAA women’s basketball history. As a high school athlete, she led South Charleston High School to three state titles in basketball.
